Petting Zoo

Don’t let the name fool you, the Hochatown Petting Zoo is not your typical tourist trap. This wild-life animal rescue is home to exotic animals recovered from all of the country, including a border town drug bust.

Old West Town Mini Golf

Our favorite of the two putt putt golf courses in town, Old West Town is nestled in the trees which makes it perfect for hot days. As you make your way through the course, make sure the kids press the buttons on each building to hear Sheriff talk the bandits, bank robberies and the old west life.

Fly Fishing

For the fly fishing enthusiast, the Mountain Fork River is prime territory. Stocked year-round with trout, the river also features a nearly four-mile “trophy section,” where boats and barbed hooks are not allowed. Broken Bow Lake features 180 miles of shoreline, and its rock-lined floor provides some of the clearest water in the region.

Visit the McCurtain County fishing website for links to the Beaver’s Bend Fly Shop, guide services, fishing license, the marina and more.

Crystal Hunting

Southern Oklahoma is home to incredible geographic formations that produce some of the most beautiful rocks and fossils. One of our favorites is to go digging rock crystals. If you are willing to take a ride—and maybe get a little lost—you escape the crowds and unearth some real treasures.

Follow the map below. Make sure you keep your phone map pulled up on the drive because you will lose cell service, but your GPS will still track, so you can follow the road.
